Virtual tests provide crucial insight in how components and structures fail due to excessive loading. By using detailed Finite Element simulations the damage tolerance and permanent deformation of a material can be studied to design better, more resilient and lighter components. At ALE we have extensive experience in virtual testing using the following techniques:
– Continuum Damage Mechanics
– Cohesive Zone models (delamination)
– XFEM
– Plasticity

Damage and failure simulations can be performed at the microstructural scale using Representative Volume Elements and at the component scale. To obtain relevent material properties we offer the vervice of characterization of advanced materials using Mechanical Tests or Homogenization to create custom material models.
